Summary of common faults in manual hoists during operation

1、 Chain system malfunction

Chain breakage/wear/deformation

Reason: Overloading, long-term use leading to metal fatigue, and environmental corrosion.

Risk: Fracture may cause heavy objects to fall, and if the wear exceeds 10%, immediate replacement is required.

Solution: Regularly check the wear of the chain diameter and replace it if it exceeds the limit; Avoid diagonal or twisted use.

Chain jamming/twisting

Reason: Chain deformation, internal entry of debris (such as dust and mud).

Risk: Increased operational power, even causing parts to get stuck.

Solution: Clean up foreign objects in the chain and correct deformation; If the adjustment is ineffective, the chain needs to be replaced.

2、 Brake system malfunction

Brake pad failure

Reason: Brake pad wear, improper adjustment, or spring failure.

Risk: Insufficient braking torque prevents stable hovering of heavy objects.

Solution: Adjust the brake clearance or replace the brake pads; Check the spring tension.

Brake lock (can only go up, not down)

Reason: The friction between the brake pads and the ratchet is unbalanced, and the internal screws are too tight.

Risk: The device brakes unidirectionally and cannot descend.

Solution:

Minor malfunction: Pull the chain forcefully in the descending direction and detach the brake pads.

Heavy fault: Disassemble the cover and use tools to tap the ratchet to separate the brake pads.

3、 Transmission and gear failure

Gear damage (cracks/broken teeth/worn tooth surface)

Reason: Overload, insufficient lubrication, poor gear meshing.

Risk: Transmission failure, equipment cannot operate.

Solution: When the tooth surface wear reaches 30% of the original tooth thickness, it should be scrapped and replaced; Cracks or broken teeth need to be replaced immediately.

Ratchet/pawl malfunction

Reason: Paw wear, deformation, or spring failure.

Risk: Self locking failure, heavy objects slipping off.

Solution: Repair or replace ratchet and pawl components; Adjust the spring tension.

4、 Hook and connecting components malfunction

Hook breakage/wear/deformation

Reason: Overloading and long-term use lead to metal fatigue.

Risk: Hook breakage causing heavy objects to fall.

Solution: Replace the hook with a new one when the wear exceeds 10% or deformation occurs; Reduce full load usage without exceeding the limit.

Loose/broken connecting components

Reason: Frequent vibration, bolts not tightened regularly.

Risk: Component detachment, equipment disassembly.

Solution: Regularly check the tightness of bolts and tighten them with a torque wrench to the standard torque.

5、 Malfunctions caused by operational and environmental factors

Overloaded operation

Reason: The operator did not verify the rated load.

Risk: Chain breakage, gear damage, brake failure.

Solution: Strictly use according to the rated load and prohibit overloading.

Operation method error

Reason: Chain entanglement, incorrect direction, excessive diagonal angle (>5 °).

Risk: Equipment jamming, component deformation.

Solution: Operate according to the instructions and ensure that the chain is lifted vertically.

Insufficient environmental adaptability

Reason: Used in environments below -20 ℃ or above 50 ℃, or unprotected in corrosive environments.

Risk: Material embrittlement, lubrication failure, accelerated corrosion.

Solution: Avoid extreme temperature environments; Clean and apply rust proof oil immediately after use in corrosive environments.

6、 Malfunctions caused by maintenance deficiencies

Insufficient lubrication

Reason: Failure to regularly apply lubricating oil (such as chains, gears, bearings).

Risk: Increased component wear and resistance.

Solution: Lubricate key parts every month, clean old oil and apply new oil.

Internal debris accumulation

Reason: Failure to clean dust and sediment after outdoor use.

Risk: Chain jamming, poor gear meshing.

Solution: Clean up internal debris after use, with a focus on checking for oil stains on the friction plates.
