During operation and maintenance of manual hoists (also known as manual hooks or chain hoists), the following safety precautions must be strictly followed to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment:

1、 Pre operation inspection

Appearance inspection:

Check the hook for cracks, wear, deformation, or corrosion, especially for damage to dangerous sections such as the hook mouth and neck.

Confirm the rated lifting capacity indicated on the hook, and the actual load must not exceed the rated value. If the marking is blurry or missing, it needs to be recalculated or determined through load testing.

Check if the anti unhooking device of the hook is intact to prevent accidental detachment of the sling.

Connection inspection:

Check whether the connection between the hook, lifting chain, and pulley system is reliable, whether the bolts and nuts are tightened, and whether the split pin is complete and open.

Confirm that the rotating parts (such as bearings and shaft sleeves) rotate flexibly without any jamming or abnormal noise.

Lubrication and maintenance:

Regularly lubricate the pulleys, rotating parts, and grease fittings to reduce wear and prevent rust.

Wipe the surface of the hook, keep it clean, and avoid oil stains or debris affecting operation.

2、 Precautions during operation

Load control:

Overloading is strictly prohibited: Choose the appropriate load according to the rated lifting capacity of the hook to avoid breakage or deformation caused by overload.

Uniform force distribution: The suspension device should be hung at the center of the force distribution on the hook to avoid bias or lateral force, and to prevent the hook body from twisting.

Smooth operation:

Slowly lift or lower heavy objects to avoid sudden starting or braking and reduce damage to the hook from impact loads.

Maintain stability when moving heavy objects to prevent collisions between the hook and obstacles, and avoid cracking or deformation.

Environmental adaptation:

When used in corrosive, high-temperature or low-temperature environments, corrosion-resistant and high-temperature resistant hook materials should be selected, and inspection frequency should be strengthened.

Avoid long-term storage in damp, dusty, or strong magnetic fields to prevent component corrosion or magnetization.

3、 Regular maintenance and upkeep

Daily inspection:

Check the surface, connecting parts, and rotating components of the hook before each use, and record any wear or deformation.

Check whether the wear of the pulley groove and rim is uniform, whether the steel wire rope matches the groove, and whether the pulley is loose.

Professional testing:

Annual comprehensive inspection: Conduct non-destructive testing (such as dye penetrant testing, magnetic particle testing, ultrasonic testing, etc.) at least once a year, with a focus on inspecting hazardous sections and threaded parts.

Deformation monitoring: If the size of the hook and claw increases by more than 10% of the original size, or the outer diameter of the hook tail thread decreases by more than 5%, it should be immediately scrapped and replaced.

Scrap standard:

When any of the following situations occur with the hook, it must be scrapped:

The hook body has fatigue cracks;

The wear of the dangerous section reaches 10% of the original size;

The twisting deformation of the hook body exceeds 10%;

Plastic deformation occurs in dangerous sections or necks;

The wear of the plate hook bushing reaches 50% of the original size, or the wear of the pin exceeds 3% -5% of the nominal diameter;

There are cracks or an increase in opening degree of more than 15% in the threaded part of the hook tail.

4、 Operator requirements

Certified on duty: Operators must undergo professional training, hold a special equipment operator certificate, and be familiar with the performance and operating procedures of hooks.

Signal communication: When multiple people are working together, standard gestures or signal commands should be used to ensure synchronous operation and avoid misoperation.

Emergency response: If any abnormalities are found in the hook (such as abnormal noise or deformation), immediately stop using it and report it. Do not repair or continue working without authorization.

5、 Storage and Preservation

Dry and ventilated: When the hook is no longer in use, it needs to be cleaned and rust removed, coated with anti rust oil, and stored in a dry and ventilated place to avoid rusting in a humid environment.

Classification storage: Hooks of different specifications and materials should be classified and stored to avoid mixing or misuse.
