What are the precautions for starting up a manual hoist

Before starting the manual hoist in operation, a comprehensive inspection should be conducted from three stages: appearance, no-load, and pre tightening before lifting, and the operating specifications should be followed. Specific precautions are as follows:

1、 Pre start inspection

Visual inspection

Hook: Check for cracks, deformation, or wear, with particular attention to dangerous sections such as the hook mouth and neck. If the hook markings are blurred or missing, the rated lifting capacity needs to be recalculated, and overloading is strictly prohibited.

Chain: Check if the chain is twisted or knotted, and if the links are arranged neatly. When the wear of the chain diameter reaches 15%, it needs to be replaced immediately to prevent the risk of breakage.

Shaft and Pin: Confirm that the pin at the root of the chain is securely fixed, the shaft is not deformed or loose, and transmission failure is avoided.

Brake: Check whether the brake (self-locking mechanism) is sensitive, reliable, and free of oil pollution. The friction surface of the brake should be kept clean to prevent brake failure from causing heavy objects to fall off.

Chain wheel cover and accessories: Ensure that the chain wheel cover is intact, the hand chain is not broken or missing, and the accessories are complete and undamaged.

Up and down no-load test

Transmission flexibility: Slowly pull the chain, check if the chain is twisted, if the transmission parts (such as gears and shafts) are flexible, without any jamming or abnormal noise.

Chain status: Observe whether there is any slipping or falling of the hand zipper strip to ensure that the chain is well engaged with the sprocket.

Braking function: Test whether the braking of friction pads, discs, and rims is reliable. If the brake fails, it needs to be repaired or replaced immediately.

Pre tightening inspection before lifting

Slightly tighten: Tighten the chain hoist slightly to apply force to the lifting chain, and check for any abnormalities (such as deformation or looseness) in each part.

Center of gravity confirmation: Ensure that the hook is located on the vertical line of the center of gravity of the heavy object to avoid tilting or flipping the object. When bundling heavy objects, they should be firm and reliable, and the lifting equipment and ropes should be within the allowable load range.

Prohibited behavior: It is strictly prohibited to hook heavy objects with hooks or hooks to prevent sliding and detachment; The lower hook component of the double chain hoist must not be flipped.

2、 Precautions during operation

Selection of lifting points

Reasonably select the lifting point based on the weight of the lifted object, and reinforce it if necessary (such as when the top plate is broken).

When using anchor rods for suspension, two anchor rods should be used as suspension points, with fixed bolts fully capped. The anchor rods should be exposed for at least two pitches and equipped with secondary protection.

Smooth operation

Slow lifting: First, slowly pull the chain and wait for the lifting chain to be under force. Then, thoroughly inspect the equipment and heavy objects to confirm that the gears are properly engaged and the chain self-locking device is working before continuing with the operation.

Avoid shaking: When lifting and lowering heavy objects, it should be done slowly to keep the objects stable and prevent the chain from shaking and causing equipment collision or damage.

Prohibit diagonal pulling: Hand pulled hoists should be used vertically to avoid diagonal pulling and reduce chain and equipment wear.

load management 

Overloading is strictly prohibited: Choose the appropriate load according to the rated lifting capacity of the chain hoist, and overloading is strictly prohibited. If lifting a heavy object of unknown weight, it is necessary to first try pulling to confirm that one person can pull it before continuing the operation; If it cannot be pulled, the cause should be identified (such as adhesion, overload, mechanical damage), and it is strictly prohibited for multiple people to pull forcefully.

Double hoist coordination: When lifting the same object with two hoists at the same time, the weight of the heavy object shall not exceed the allowable lifting capacity of each hoist, and a dedicated person shall be responsible for directing, evenly sharing the load, and coordinating the actions of the operators.

Reasonable positioning: The operator should stand in the same plane as the hand chain wheel to pull the hand chain, avoiding standing within the range of force and bounce of the lifting chain, and preventing the chain from breaking and collapsing.

No staying: During the lifting process, it is strictly prohibited for any personnel to pass, walk or stay under the lifted object, nor to lift together with heavy objects.

No throwing: It is strictly prohibited to throw the chain hoist to prevent damage to components or injury to personnel.

3、 Special Environment and Maintenance

Environmental adaptation

When used in damp, high temperature, or corrosive environments, it is necessary to choose hand pulled hoists made of corrosion-resistant and high temperature resistant materials, and increase the frequency of inspection.

When approaching mud and sand operations, a skilled hoist should be used to prevent mud and sand from entering the rotating bearings and affecting their service life.

regular maintenance

Lubrication and maintenance: The gear part should be regularly lubricated with oil, and the pawl, ratchet, and pawl spring should be checked regularly. If any abnormalities are found, they should be replaced in a timely manner.

Disassembly inspection: Hand pulled hoists that have been in use for more than 3 months need to be disassembled, inspected, cleaned, and oiled, and repaired for missing parts, malfunctions, or structural damage before they can be used.

Scrap standard: If the fatigue deformation and wear of the load-bearing chain exceed the scrap standard (such as the wear of the chain diameter reaching 15%), or the wear of the friction plate exceeds 25% of the calibrated size, it must be immediately scrapped and replaced.
