Working principle of manual forklift

The working principle of a manual forklift is mainly based on the principles of hydraulic transmission and reducing rolling friction. It achieves easy lifting and handling of goods through manual operation, as follows:

1、 Hydraulic transmission principle

The core power of a manual forklift comes from the hydraulic system, and its working process can be divided into three stages:

Power input: The operator swings the handle up and down to drive the plunger or gear inside the hydraulic pump (usually a manually operated plunger pump or gear pump) to operate. This process converts the mechanical energy of human hands into hydraulic energy, causing hydraulic oil to generate pressure.

Pressure transmission: According to Pascal's principle, hydraulic oil serves as the working medium, transmitting motion through changes in sealing volume in a completely sealed space, and transferring energy from one location to another through the pressure inside the oil. When the high-pressure oil output by the hydraulic pump is injected into the hydraulic cylinder, the pressure of the oil pushes the piston to make linear motion inside the cylinder.

Power output: The hydraulic cylinder converts the hydraulic pressure input from the hydraulic pump into mechanical energy to drive the working mechanism. The fork connected to the piston rises or falls with the movement of the piston, easily completing the lifting and lowering actions of the cargo.

2、 Principle of reducing rolling friction

When transporting goods, the wheels of a manual forklift turn sliding friction into rolling friction, greatly reducing friction. This allows the operator to easily pull the forklift even if the total weight of the goods and the vehicle remains the same. In addition, the front and rear wheel design of manual forklifts also follows the Ackermann steering principle:

Front large and rear small design: The front wheel size of the manual forklift is large, and the rear wheel size is small. This design allows the front wheels to rotate at a larger angle, achieving a smaller turning radius, making it extremely advantageous for forklifts to perform various turning operations in narrow spaces.

Enhanced stability: The smaller size of the rear wheels provides a certain degree of stability for manual forklifts, reducing the risk of forklift rollover.

3、 System collaboration and operational control

Coordination of control parts: The pressure control valve, flow control valve, and directional control valve together form the control part of the forklift. The flow control valve adjusts the oil flow rate according to actual needs and controls the lifting speed of the fork; The directional control valve determines the direction of oil flow and controls the upward, downward, and static states of the fork.

Operating handle design: The handle integrates three major functions: lifting, handling, and lowering, in accordance with ergonomic principles. Effortless operation is achieved through the principle of leverage during operation, such as driving the hydraulic pump to operate when lifting the handle, and controlling the descent speed through the balance valve when lowering the handle.
